  • Tenders are invited for Consultant to Produce a Documentary for the Zimbabwe Gender Commission. Background UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men and as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. The purpose of the assignment is to document women’s experiences in the 2018 elections through a video documentary that will contribute to dialogue at the 2018 Zimbabwe Gender Commission Gender Forum. One of the objectives of 2018 Gender Forum is to conduct a review or gender audit of the 2018 harmonised elections. Through this documentary, women’s voices will be show cased to highlight some of the challenges experienced in 2018 and to share some of the strategies for improving the status quo going forward. Duties and Responsibilities The consultant is expected to assist with documenting the progress, achievements and challenges faced by women in the run up to the 2018 elections in video and photographic format for showcasing at the 2018 Gender Forum and on a variety of media platforms to support learning and documentation of women’s experiences. Specific tasks and responsibilities: Under the overall supervision of the ZGC the Consultant will be expected to undertake the following tasks: Β· Interviews with key informants on the challenges that women faced in politics in 2018; Β· Interview female politicians on their achievements, failures, lessons leant and achievements; Β· Document the Zimbabwe Gender Commission 2018 gender forum; Β· Produce a documentary which documents women’s experiences in the 2018 harmonised elections – documentary to be shown as part of the Gender Forum activities on 17 October 2018. Media Format: Photos and Videos for all other tasks listed: Β· Gender Forum 2018 Β· Interviews with female, male politicians, community members, CSO leaders and academia The consultant will be asked to adhere to the standards relating to the quality of product attached hereto. All materials produced under this consultancy will fall exclusively under the copyright of UN Women/ZGC and all raw materials will be handed over to UN Women/ZGC, at the end of the consultancy. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfil the stated outputs and deliverables with the provision of their own camera equipment and editing facilities. Deliverables: Β· Produce a short documentary with human interest stories which focus on group achievements, challenges or lessons and individual stories captured from various women candidates and other actors narrating their experiences in the 2018 electoral processes Β· A collection of professional high-resolution photographs with the highest definition available on the camera (12 to 36 MP): Β· Digital. Tiff File Format; Β· At Least 300 Dpi (Dots per Inch); Β· At Least 6 Million Pixels (Without Interpolation); Β· One 30-minute documentary to be produced and can include previously recorded material some of which may be provided by the ZGC/UN existing material bank; Β· 1 to 3-minute videos compressed and edited for use on social media platforms, suitable for messaging on specifically Facebook and Twitter with a bit.ly link to selected graphics/videos/write-ups (https://bitly.com/); Methodology Production of the videos should be in PAL, SD or HD, with a screen format of 16/9 (4/3 no longer accepted). In HD, we recommend recording in 1080 50i. We also accept 1080 60i or 1080 25p, according to the camera used for the shooting. We prefer (in order of preference): Β· XDCAM EX files (any hard drive storage support Mac or PC); Β· XDCAM HD discs (single layer 23Gb or dual layer 50Gb); Β· AVCHD files (any hard drive storage Mac or PC); Β· XDCAM SD discs (IMX or DVCam format); Β· DVCAM tapes (30 to 62-minute tapes, rather than longer 120 min or 184 min tapes); Β· HDV tapes (recording format: 1080i); Please do not use MiniDV tapes in your DVCAM camera. Communication: Β· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Β· Excellent writing skills in the compilation of high level quality documents in English language. Required Skills and Experience Education: Β· Bachelor’s or equivalent professional degree in communications and media or related field. Experience: Β· At least 5 years of working experience in producing documentaries for development work; Β· Minimum 5 years of professional experience working as a videographer and photographer with demonstrated experience in reportage/documentary photography projects in the humanitarian and/or development sector is required; Β· Proficient in video editing software; Β· Have extensive knowledge of graphical video design; Β· Working knowledge of HD formats; Β· Creative and artistic abilities; ability to recommend innovative ideas for shooting and using the photographs; Β· Good understanding of ethical issues involved in interviewing and taking and using photographs of women and families for advocacy initiatives; Β· Prior experience with UN system and civil society organisations Β· Demonstrated sensitivity, discretion, tact and courtesy in relation to gender equality and women’s rights, development principles and projects, implementing partners and national and international personnel of varied nationalities and backgrounds would be an added advantage.
