• Description:
• Tenders are invited for Individual National Consultants for Provision of Support in Communication for Development. UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UNICEF has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. UNICEF believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfill their potential – to the benefit of a better world. Background UNICEF Zimbabwe is implementing a community-based nutrition program in rural districts of Zimbabwe. The programme includes a multisectoral community-based model for stunting reduction (MCBM) and nutrition emergency activities. A consultant is required to strengthen community-based activities targeted at promoting adoption of positive nutrition behaviours and develop tools for the Baby Friendly Hospital initiative (BFHI). Objectives Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication and technical oversight from the Nutrition Manager, the consultant will develop evidence informed social and behaviour change (SBCC) and sensitization communication strategies on improving uptake of micronutrient powders, develop strategies, plans, tools for BHFI and support the nutrition section on C4D tasks detailed under clause 4. Methodology and Expected Outputs · Develop evidence based C4D strategy for improving micronutrient powder uptake for children aged 6-23 months and caregivers through Mother2Mother (M2M) support groups, plans and budgets (indicative), write up the draft and share it with MoHCC and partners at a validation workshop. Incorporate comments and feedback and produce a final draft. · Develop monitoring tools for BHFI and 10 steps to successful breast feeding. · Produce booklet on C4D formative research for HSCT and ART adherence among adolescents in Buhera and Mwenezi districts. · Provide technical assistance for the establishment of a national nutrition communication strategy implementation and national coordination mechanism. · Oversee production and publication of related knowledge sharing process documents. · Attend weekly nutrition section meetings to keep abreast of developments and participate in meetings with implementing partners as required. Packaged process documentation of the C4D emergency response booklet. 5 days Payments will be made based on agreed daily rate · Inventory, audit of emergency IEC-BCC material for packaging of nutrition communication integrated key messages guide. Packaging and publication of the IEC-BCC integrated key messages toolkit, 5 days Payments will be made based on agreed daily rate · Produce booklet on C4D formative research for HSCT and ART adherence among adolescents in Buhera and Mwenezi districts. FGD Report, validation meeting with stakeholders and packaging of the report, 10 days Payments will be made based on agreed daily rate · Field research, monitoring and evaluation. Monthly field Monitoring report of monitoring of implementation of strategies developed report 20 days Payments will be made based on agreed daily rate All deliverables will have to meet expected quality as assessed by the supervisor of the assignment. Timeframe The consultancy will start on 2 January 2018 and run for 125 days until July 2018. Consultancy Requirements · Advanced university degree in the social/ behavioural sciences (Communication, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Health Education) with proven experience in the field of Communication for development, media and development, health education/promotion, community mobilization, social marketing, participatory communication, new technologies and research. · At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the development, planning and management of social development programmes, including several years in developing countries -preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa, with practical experience in the adaptation and application of communication strategy planning processes to specific programmes. · Excellent analytical and advocacy skills. · Excellent writing and presentation skills in English. · Experience in team working in culturally diverse contexts. · Initiate and execute activities in a timely manner.
